GREAT BIRMINGHAM RUN – SUNDAY 13TH OCTOBER 2019

The race of choice for our formidable duo Annie Kisluk and David Goodyear this week was one of the Simply Health Great Run series, the Birmingham half marathon, smaller sister of the Great North Run. The city comes together for this event, as runners experienced the support of the community all the way along the 13.1 mile course as it winds through the heart of Birmingham. Billed as the Uk’s second biggest half marathon, a new route this year incorporated several roads that haven’t been part of the event before but still offered up a challenge to set a new personal best. However, the route of today’s Great Birmingham Run was changed at the last minute because of a security scare surrounding a suspect vehicle. Around 11,000 runners were unable to complete the half-marathon distance when it was shortened to avoid the Cannon Hill Park and Edgbaston. Organisers said on Sunday morning that the change, which shortened the route to 11miles was due to heavy rain in the area. Following consultation with the police the decision was made to progress with the event over the reduced distance and assurances were made that participants and spectators safety was not compromised at any point. The vehicle was declared safe later in the day and despite the short route Annie & David declared that they ‘loved the race’ and ‘Birmingham was ace’ – no doubt they will be back! Well done guys! Enjoy your beer and cherish your fabulous medal!
