THE AGE UK LEEDS ABBEY DASH – SUNDAY 27TH 2019

posted in: Race Reports | 0

It’s fast, it’s flash, it’s the Abbey Dash! This year marks Age Uk’s 34th edition of this ever popular race. It’s the third race in our winter championships and it’s an out and back course from the city centre out to Kirkstall Abbey and back. Every year runners return to challenge themselves on this PB setter of a course. Fortune favoured the brave this morning when almost perfect weather conditions, if a little on the chilly side, set the scene for a thriller of a race. Not least for the 12 Eccleshill Road Runners who donned the blue and white at the start line aiming to mop up a personal best along with an exclusive 2019 medal and technical t-shirt. A prime starting location on the Headrow now minus the Cardigan Fields loop means an even faster course. An added bonus is an extra hour in bed, as this year’s race takes place the day after the clocks go back. At the sound of the gun runners kick off from the Headrow and continue along Westgate. From there it’s straight out along Kirkstall Road until you reach the Abbey and a raucous crowd of supporters, about turn and leg it like the old bill are after you, back to the Headrow to claim your goodies! Dashing for the finish line this year were Marc Steele 42:39 (PB), Tony Redmond 49:50, Annie Kisluk 50:45, Stuart Wagstaff 51:32, Gemma Illingworth 51:36, Julie Steele 51:57, David Goodyear 55:18, Martin Steele 56:46, Sarah Myers 59:12, Alison Hartley 66:26, Anne Blakey 67:28, Caroline Ward 69:02.

Well done everyone and big thanks to our supporters along the course!
