BRADFORD CITY RUNS – SUNDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 2019

posted in: Race Reports | 0

This race is now a firmly established event which puts our splendid City well and truly on the running map.

Starting and finishing in Centenary Square it brings a definite running buzz to our local community. A merry band of Eccleshill Road Runners took a pop at this one, blowing off the cobwebs on this beautiful Autumnal morning.

Bradford City Runs is an annual Festival of Running with a choice of 4 distances: 5K,10K and Half Marathon along with a special Kids’ Mile Run plus a new added distance, all races are chip timed, held on closed, traffic-free roads in and around City Park and the city centre. This is a unique format: one 5K loop to create 4 race distances. The 5K loop of Bradford city centre takes in City Park, Bradford University, the Broadway and Little Germany. One lap gets you 5K, two gets you 10k and 4 and a bit gets you a half marathon. For 2019 there’s a new 10 mile distance (3 and a bit laps). Runners just choose their distance and enter. The race routes take in parts of Little Germany and the Broadway Shopping Centre, as well as the University of Bradford, Bradford College, City Hall and City Park. First home in the half marathon was Tony Redmond n a very respectable 1:55:53 closely followed by Paul Georgas and Dan Jenkins who clocked a fabulous 2:01:01. Choosing the 10k we had Adam Garrett who finished in 57:33 and Anne Blakey  71:10 and Caroline Ward 72:07. Our only entrant in the naugural distance of 10 miles was Ian Stow who finished in 1:13:22 (7th overall in that distance!)

Fantastic team spirit from runners and spectators alike, brilliant running, well done everyone! Big thanks also to our band of marshals who’s help was invaluable as always!
