THE ARTHUR JAMES RELAYS – SUNDAY 10TH NOVEMBER 2019

posted in: Race Reports | 0

Eccleshill Road Runners annual pilgrimage to Rawdon Meadows took place today after having to be rescheduled. The usual August slot just could not draw the numbers due to club members holiday and other commitments. The legend that is Arthur James is celebrated every year when our loyal members congregate at the hallowed starting point to be placed into teams of three where each team member runs the now famous 2.7 mile leg in a clockwise circuit through Calverley Woods. With the immortal words “Run because you can” echoing in our memories, each team is vying for the coveted Arthur James memorial shield. The event is ultimately a fun based theme but inevitable friendly rivalry rises to the surface to create stiff competition. This year was no different as 4 teams lined up to battle it out. A crisp Autumnal, Remembrance Sunday morning greeted the runners, the sun was shining and it was ‘brisk’ to say the least. As always, events like this require volunteers to marshal and could not go ahead without them, a big shout out to Alison, Tricia, Neil and Lorraine for their support. Also thank you to our crew and everybody who gave assistance setting up and managing the morning’s proceedings. This year’s Teams were:

Janice Magennis, Caroline Ward & Marc Steele – cumulative time 1:23:12
Debra Grant, Jackie Bywater & Garry Ellison – cumulative time 1:20:50
Josh Jenkins, Dan Kirkham & Martin Steele – cumulative time 1:19:11
Julie Steele, Gemma Illingworth & Dan Jenkins – cumulative time 1:14:37
Another great club event oozing with team spirit and camaraderie. Great running all, well done!
