PECO RACE 2, MIDDLETON PARK – SUNDAY DECEMBER 15TH 2019

Race 6 in the club’s 2019/20 Winter championship came in the form of Race 2 of this year’s Peco cross country league hosted by Abbey Runners, assisted by Hyde Park Harriers. 12 blue and whites assembled at the race location, Middleton Park vying for points on the table, to be briefed on the order of the day. A very chilly morning started with wind and hail but eventually gave way to Winter sun. Following the recent wet weather conditions under foot for the race, run entirely within the grounds of the park, were challenging to say the least. The proceedings were kicked off with the Junior one mile race (school years 2 to 6) with Josh Jenkins and Marcus Myers both competing in the same race. One anti-clockwise lap of the massive field and then down into the woods made for a muddy, challenging course for the youngsters but both put in an absolutely sterling performance, Josh finished 10:03 and Marcus 12:58. Well done boys! A short time later the senior race began with two full anti-clockwise laps of the enormous field to thin out the mass start of the ladies and men’s race followed by a jaunt into the west woods before returning back to the field for a half lap to the finish completing around 4.7 undulating miles. For the Ladies we had Gillian Jago 45:26, Julie Steele 49:44, Janice Magennis 50:45, Sarah Myers 53:46, Alison Hartley 59:16 & Caroline Ward 60:06 and the Gents team: Dan Jenkins 38:54, Marc Steele 41:41, Tony Redmond 42:38, Robert Sutton 46:01, Paul Georgas 46:03 and Martin Steele 49:44.

Fantastic running everyone well done!
