Race 9 in Eccleshill Road Runner’s Winter championships took the form of the third Peco cross country race in the 2019/2020 series at Crimple Valley, Harrogate. As usual there were two junior events preceding the longer senior race.

Junior XC Challenge (School Year 2 – 6): 10.00am, 1 mile approx.
Junior XC Challenge (School Year 7 – 12): 10.20am, 2 miles approx.
Senior Ladies and Men (aged 16 and over*): 11.00 am, 5 miles approx.

Our junior contingency consisted of Josh Jenkins and Marcus Myers who ran the 1 mile and Liam Ellison who ran the 2 miles.

14 Road Runners made up the senior team, eager to score valuable points in the league tables.

Perfect weather conditions with a keen frost surrendering to beautiful sunshine, making extremely tough, muddy conditions in parts of the course, where water had retained and then defrosted.

All 3 races took place on the land adjacent to the Yorkshire Showground. The course availability comes with gratitude to the Yorkshire Agricultural Society for allowing the use of their land, car park and toilets.
The courses: The junior course is a lap of approximately one mile (two laps for the older age group) and is entirely on grass but does involve some crossings of concrete roads.
The senior course is two laps of just over 2.5 miles each. The route was mainly on grass but also involved crossing concrete roads and other hard surfaces as well as sections of trails. There were some quite technical sections with exposed tree roots mud drenched hollows as well as rocks and a short steep descent with rough steps. There were twists and turns low hanging branches in the wooded areas to navigate.

Juniors Results: Josh Jenkins (10:13); Marcus Myers (13:02)

Liam Ellison (25:46)
