ASICS WINDERMERE MARATHON – SATURDAY 22ND MAY 2021

😱 Shock, horror! As the race bib drops through the letterbox! At this moment in time Sarah Myers has to come to terms with the stark realisation that she has to complete 26.2 miles with not much training in the bank. Postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic when over 2000 runners (who were well into their training) staff and volunteers had to put everything on hold. Well now it’s here! 😳 The Most Scenic UK Marathon
One of a handful of marathons run entirely within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Often described as the friendliest and most beautiful UK marathon, finish this breathtaking course in the grounds of Brathay Hall with stunning views over England’s largest lake. Profits from the event, and money raised through fundraising by competitors, support work to improve the life chances of children, young people and families. Extremely hilly but a very rewarding race with great atmosphere (Except for a pandemic) Participants normally get to rub shoulders with some amazing people that are doing the 10in10 (10 marathons in 10 consecutive days).
Enter Ian Storey who steps up to make sure Sarah sticks to the discipline and completes the race. No crowds this time thanks to the pandemic, just rock up and run.
Sarah and Ian completed this gruelling hilly event. Despite awful weather and tough conditions the pair crossed the finish line in 5 hours 49 minutes. Fantastic effort, well done both!
