Hosted by Hyde Park Harriers the 10th Annual Summer Mile is a one mile race staged in heats on tarmac paths in Woodhouse Moor AKA Hyde Park, Leeds. Runners state their predicted time when they enter and they are then put into a heat with others of a similar standard and provided with a rare opportunity to race a mile. A total of 12 heats are staged with the fastest being the last to run. Tonight, most watched in awe as excitement built and the course record (4:31) fell as a Roundhay Runner romped home in 4:28!
Eight Eccleshill Road Runners stood on the start lines of several of the heats as the nerves kicked in for many who haven’t raced in quite a while! Conditions were dry and extremely good under foot as the sun made an appearance making for a beautiful evening to race. Leading the team home was Daniel Jenkins in 5:45 (heat 9) closely followed by Marc Steele in 5:51 (heat 7), Martin Steele 7:20 (heat 3), Emma Haigh 8:00 (heat 3), Annie Kisluk 8:11 (heat 3), Julie Steele 8:17 (heat 2), Sarah Rawlings 8:17 (heat 2) and Linda Bussey 8:21 (heat 2)
The fastest male and female from each qualifying club were awarded a trophy, Eccleshill’s went to Dan Jenkins and Emma Haigh – a big well done to everyone and massive thank you to our support crew!
