Marathon joy returns to the capital!! The 2021 London Marathon was the 41st running of the annual London Marathon on 3 October 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the race was postponed from April until October to maximise the chances of a mass participation event. Participants united in London and all over the world in an uplifting celebration of togetherness! Runners were able to participate anywhere in the world via the virtual event whilst masses gathered in the City to take part in the return of a mass field of club runners, celebrities and charity fundraisers to the London Marathon’s traditional route was both a joy and a huge relief for Event Director Hugh Brasher and his team, whose tireless aim has been to pull humanity together, bring joy back to the streets of the capital, and once again give charities a chance to raise much-needed funds. Eccleshill’s Claire Hern was privileged enough to be there on the start line whilst Sarah Rawlings added miles to her Bridlington half marathon efforts to complete the marathon distance virtually. Claire finished in 3:29:41. Well done Ladies! Those of you with aspirations to run London, the ballot opened yesterday and remains open until 21:00 this coming Friday 8th October.
