PECO XC RACE 1 – SUNDAY 14TH NOVEMBER 2021

So as the racing calendar starts to get back to some normality, the inevitable autumn/winter off road and cross country Funfest begins! The PECO XC league consists of five races in the series, culminating in an end of season relay.

Race 1 in this cross country series was hosted by Abbey runners and assisted by Kippax Harriers. Held at Middleton Park close to the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds. The weather today was absolutley perfect for running, over cast but bright. With little rain over the previous couple of days conditions under foot were also much less complicated than the normal cross country races are. With tree roots, rocky woodland trails and uneven fields to negotiate the course was challenging but scenic over a distance of around 5 miles.

Kicking off proceedings in the Junior 1 mile run at 10 am was Marcus Myers who eagerly conquered the challenging course and careered up the finish funnel full speed ahead powered by flapjack, finishing in a brilliant time of 11:17. Eight senior runners flew the flag for the Eagles with Charlotte Jackson leading the team home in a great time of 43:43 followed by Robert Sutton 47:06, Garry Ellison 47:57, Gillian Jago (second claim) 48:33, Paul Croston 50:50, Julie Steele 51:11, Linda Bussey 52:59. Get well wishes to Brian Perfitt who set off in the race but pulled up.
