The third race in this year’s Peco cross country league was once again held at Middleton Park. Hosted by Rothwell Harriers, assisted by Hyde Park Harriers. A misty morning greeted runners to The John Charles Stadium where Marcus Myers once again kicked off proceedings in the junior 1 mile race run entirely within the grounds of the park taking in the main field and wooded areas. The senior men were heralded to the startline just before 11 am before the ladies were assembled and set off 10 to 15 minutes later. Conditions underfott were tricky at time as mud as slippery as butter made it difficult to stay upright. Just over 5 miles of boggy fields, mud, tree roots and rocky areas challenged runners to the max. Marcus posted a fabulous personal best time of 09:33. Leading the senior men home was Robert Sutton 48:48, followed by Brian Perfitt 50:37, Paul Croston 50:55, and Martin Steele 52:34. For the ladies we had Charlotte Jackson 43:48, Gillian Jago 51:47, Julie Steele 51:47 and Linda Bussey 54:34.

Well done team – fabulous effort in challenging conditions. A big thank you to those who turned out to lend their support!
