PECO XC RACE 5, ROUNDHAY – SUNDAY 20TH FEBRUARY 2020

The final race in this year’s Peco XC League held at Roundhay Park was hosted by Roundhay Runners assisted by Chapel Allerton Runners. Storms Dudley and Eunice hitting in the days leading up to race made for challenging conditions to say the least! Snow on Saturday thrown in for good measure didn’t hang around long adding to the already saturated conditions. Marcus Myers once again kicked off proceedings in the junior 1 mile race at 10 am. Previous form shone through again as he conquered the course in fine style finishing in 13:17, with a smile on his face and making the senior team proud of his efforts in horrendous conditions. The senior men and ladies race kicked off promptly at 11am. A short downhill section soon gave way to a soggy, boggy uphill, once at the top of the hill, Soldiers Field left the runners open to the elements, feeling full force of the wind for the short section, a welcome diversion from the wooded section due to fallen trees led to a welcome downhill and respite from the wind. Rain from start to finish added to the tricky conditions underfoot which meant one team member had difficulty staying on his feet and fell at the final hurdle (mentioning no names!) Out in the blue and white for the final showdown were Garry Ellison 49:41, Gillian Jago 45:32 and Julie Steele 49:41. Thanks to Martin for his support. Well done All! Bring on the 2022/23 series!
