Gillian Jago marked this weekend with a trip to Manchester to put the blue and whites flag on the start line of today’s 10k and rub shoulders with some of our national elites, literally, Gill seized photo opportunities with eventual womens winner Hellen Obiri and second lady Eilish McColgan. The Great Manchester Run is Europe’s biggest 10k and also incorporates a half marathon. Tens of thousands of people take part – from world-class athletes to fundraising families.
Returning to the city again this weekend for this national extravaganza, the day featured live music from eight entertainment zones – and, of course, the sound of thousands of supporters cheering on the athletes. The 10k route, which is 6.9 miles shorter than the half marathon, allowed participants to take in the view of Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, the award-winning Imperial War Museum at Salford Quays, and The Lowry. The weather was a tad humid and hot for runners but perfect for spectators. Gillian finished in 51:09 Brilliant running, well done!
