HOLLYBANK ECCUP 10 – SUNDAY JUNE 26TH 2022

posted in: Race Reports | 0

Race number nine in the Eccleshill Summer championship and we had 8 representatives in this renowned, local event.

Hosted by Abbey runners and now in its 29th year, it is back once again with its charitable partner Hollybank Trust. Abbey Runners will be making a donation from the proceeds to both the Hollybank Trust and North & West Leeds Foodbank. Runners were also able to choose whether to receive a T-shirt as their memento or have a tree planted on their behalf instead, a choice which is fast becoming popular The race is a hilly, 1 lap, undulating course, billed as good preparation for those looking to complete a half marathon distance, taking in rural closed roads as well as a scenic jaunt around the stunning Eccup reservoir making this Leeds’ most popular 10 mile road race which may well be the reason it has sold out on its last four stagings. Despite being marginally cooler early doors than of late, the temperatures rose as time wore on making for hot conditions for running, this is one race that is though, notorious for being so, the only respite being breeze across the reservoir and a few areas shaded by trees.

Leading home the blue and white army and achieving second in her age category was Claire Hern in 1:10:26, followed by Tony Redmond 1:24:53, Rob Sutton 1:27:25, Gillian Jago 1:27:27, Annie Kisluk 1:31:54, David Goodyear 1:41:21, Lee Mathews 1:44:54 and Sarah Myers 1:48:19  Brilliant running team, very well done!
