THE ROUGEMONT CHASE – SUNDAY 31ST JULY 2022

posted in: Race Reports | 0

Part of the traditional Weeton Agricultural show is the Rougemont Chase. The 7.4k (approx 4.5 miles) out and back multi-terrain fell challenge starts and finishes in the show ground. Today’s race proved to be a soggy start as early rain persisted but cleared before the finish. Whether it’s running up to the famous Almscliffe Crag or along the banks of the River Wharf, running has been part of Weeton Show for as long as anyone can remember. With several British champions living in the local area this race is always hotly contested. Participants are led on a parade lap before the cheering crowds before setting off in earnest for Rougemont Wood negotiating stiles, mud and stubborn cattle. At the top of Haggis Hill they turn to retrace their steps back to the finishing line at the entry to the show ground ring. Annie Kisluk & David Goodyear were out in the blue and white for Eccleshill. Well done David & Annie! (Times TBC).
