IT’S GRIM UP NORTH SUMMER SERIES – WEDNESDAY 17TH AUGUST 2022

This week’s destination of choice for Race 5 of the Summer series race was Marsden near Huddersfield. The Sarah’s were once again on the start line for Eccleshill.

The Grim Up North Summer Evening Series is a collection of events now in it’s second year for 2022. The series is aimed at keeping runners motivated (and race fit) over the summer months. With the exception of race 1 which is 4 or 8 miles the remaining races in the series offer the choice of 5K and 10K, held each Wednesday at 18:45 and their motto ‘rock up and run’ means there’s no need for pre race entry as it’s entry on the night only, turn up pay your fee and you’re in! In addition, this year they are running a championship where each runner’s five fastest times of the series count, trophies are then awarded for first male and 1st female in each distance with overall winners being announced at the end of the series.
Destinations in the series include: Blubberhouses, Bingley, Kirkstall, Saltaire, Marsden, Slawit & Cromwell Bottom (Elland). Once again Sarah Rawlings & Sarah Myers took on the 10k challenge, slightly cooler conditions this week should have made for a more pleasant run, however, despite the overcast evening it was still quite humid and with a reported 12 locks to contend with this race threw up more of a challenge than the perhaps anticipated canal run! Sarah R finished in 58:36 and Sarah M 61:19 Well run once again Ladies!
