In her second race of the weekend, Eccleshill’s Gillian Jago set the bar high today and in doing so earned star number three of the six majors.
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is the pinnacle of achievement for elite athletes and everyday runners alike. On race day, runners set out to accomplish a personal dream by reaching the finish line in Grant Park and Gill was no exception. Participants, spectators and anyone who plans on visiting Chicago are bracing themselves for the city’s biggest racing event of the year. The 44th Bank of America Chicago Marathon sent thousands of runners on a grand tour of the city, and they do so knowing that the course can be helpful for all. Recognised for its flat and fast route, the race starts and finishes in Grant Park. Along the 26.2-mile journey, runners were guided across 29 neighbourhoods, dozens of historic landmarks and six Chicago River bridges. The course was trodden by as many as 40,000 runners and dotted with plenty of spectators too. Gillian paced the race really well achieving half way in 1:56 and going on to keep her focus and finish in a fantastic time of 4:21:50 – amazing Gill, congratulations on you fabulous achievement
