BRIGANTIA HOGSHEAD CHALLENGE – SATURDAY, 12TH NOVEMBER 2022

Not to be outdone for choice, Eccleshill’s Daniel Jenkins opted for a run with a difference in a bid to boost his mental endurance training for similar races. Based in very familiar territory to Dan. Heslington parkrun nearby kick started his running weekend at 9 am before the start of the challenge at 11 am! This 6 hour, chip timed event means runners can just turn up and run 1 lap and earn a medal and goody bag, or run for the full 6 hours and see how many laps can be completed or indeed, anything in between. It’s each individual’s challenge, their race, they decide the distance!

Last hosted in 2019 this edition of the Brigantia Hogshead Challenge was a sell out. Named Brigantia to celebrate our Celtic heritage and Hogshead as they wanted a medal with a hog on (also loosely because of York’s previous name Ebor, ie E-boar). The event is held at York Sports Village on their 1km cycle circuit. All runners were treated to homemade cakes to compliment their medal and goodie bag!

Dan managed to do an amazing 44 laps of the circuit amounting to 26.21 miles in a fantastic time of 4:13:32 to finish in 4th place overall. Brilliant running, well done!
