Race 1 of the 2022/23 Peco Cross Country league was hosted by Abbey Runners assisted by Valley Striders. The PECO Cross Country League is a series of 5 cross country races organised in and around Leeds in which clubs affiliated to the League compete across men’s and ladies divisions. Each race is about 4-5 miles usually held in some of the most picturesque areas which might include parks and stately homes. Providing often challenging but the most rewarding places to run! Race one was no exception, held entirely within the grounds of Middleton Park adjoining the John Charles Centre for Sport. Proceedings were kicked off with 1 and 2 mile Junior races and this season the ladies kicked off the main event. Starting out with a lap of the field before entering a beautiful wooded area, the 4.6 mile route consisted of some good paths and tracks, and several slightly more challenging tree root, muddy areas. All in all an extremely rewarding race.

Leading the pack home was Dan Jenkins in 45:41 followed by Rob Sutton in 48:29; Julie Steele 49:45; Linda Bussey 50:10 and Brin Perfitt 52:07. Well done Team, top effort for the club!

The next race in the series is Race 2 Sunday 18th December at the stunning venue of Temple Newsam.
