Tony Redmond, Gillian Jago & Mike Farrell took the blue and white flag to the Canary Islands this weekend to run either a marathon, a half marathon or a 10k in the warmer climate. There was though, something for everyone with junior races also taking place on Friday. The event this year celebrated it’s 30th edition of the the race. Lanzarote in the Canary Islands has been a popular tourist destination for many years, and the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K races have grown in popularity and reputation with runners from all over the globe taking part. This is a well organised event on a flat and fast course along the coast. With an average temperature of 19 degrees Celsius in December both the half marathon and marathon courses run along the promenade between Costa Teguise and Puerto de Carmen across Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. The start Line is situated at Playa de los Pocillos, in Puerto del Carmen. It goes along Avenida de las Playas de las Playas towards to Arrecife. Early morning weather was apparently hot and humid making for challenging conditions in the first half of the marathon but light rain later on made for more comfortable conditions for the latter part of the marathon and the half marathon and 10k. Tony Redmond finished this classic in 4:31:50 and in the half: Gillian 2:01:26 & Mike 2:15:52. Brilliant running all and well done!
