SHIREHAMPTON SANTA DASH – SUNDAY 4TH DECEMBER 2022

posted in: Race Reports | 0

Hundreds of Santas hit the streets in Shirehampton near Avonmouth, Bristol, running 5km to raise money to light up their local high street. One of those was Eccleshill’s Daniel Jenkins (accompanied by son Josh)! The popular Santa Dash is organised by Shire Christmas Illuminations – a group of five women in Shirehampton who are dedicated to getting the community in the festive spirit, meanwhile ensuring the village of Shirehampton shines bright every christmas. Around 300 red suited runners took part in the event, with some finding inventive ways to get their little elves across the finish line – on scooters, shoulders and in buggies! Notably the event raises thousands of pounds for the Shire Christmas Illuminations every year. Local residents lined the streets to cheer the Santas on along the way, and even set up a pit stop with a shot of port or hot squash to keep them going. The structure of the event is simple, if you are an Adult over the age of 18, you pay the price of an adult, you are then issued the best fit suit for you. For children between the age of 6 and 17 we will issue the suit that best fits them. Participants are reminded to remember, “its one size fits no one basically, but hey thats part of the fun!” Dan stormed home in a 5k personal best time of 22:59! Happy Christmas!
