Eccleshill’s Gillian Jago had a ‘Good Friday’ in the run up to the Easter bank holiday weekend! Having entered the Manchester to Liverpool Ultra organised by GB Ultras she has been training in earnest even dedicating a whole weekend to take part in training runs covering the full distance over two days. As those of you who have covered this distance will know it is no mean feat and takes grit and determination to take on such a challenge. The M2L Ultra is a unique 50 mile event heavily supported following the Trans-Pennine Trail, the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey from Manchester to Liverpool. This year saw the 7th Edition of the race. The course is a well-marked, fast 50 mile race with a 14 hour cut-off, and is billed as being ideal for both the seasoned ultra-runner looking for a personal best on the distance and also a great introduction into ultra-running for beginners like Gill. Piazza, the start was at Media City, Salford Quays, home to both BBC and ITV studios and their new location saw runners starting the race from right next to the Blue Peter Garden! They then crossed the Media City Footbridge, passing Coronation Street Studios and the IWM North before picking up the Bridgewater Canal at Manchester United Football Club. Along the way magnificent support is provided by the GB Ultras team at six mandatory checkpoints to take them all the way to the finish at Railway Club, North End Sports and Social Club, Melling Road, Liverpool. Runners also earn UTMB Qualifying Points & ITRA Points. The Top 100 finishers earned themselves a huge, Gold ‘M2LUltra’ Medal, 101-200 finishers earned a Silver ‘M2LUltra’ Medal and 201+ finishers earn the Bronze ‘M2LUltra’ Medal. The 2023 Manchester to Liverpool Ultra 50 Mile is part of the 2023 GB Ultras 50 Mile GRAND SLAM!  There were also additional prizes for the Top 3 Male & Top 3 Female finishers. Gill finished the race in 10:26:36 Huge congratulations Gill!
