Race number One in the Eccleshill Summer Championship came in the form of the Guiseley Gallop 10k. This popular local race is hosted by Skyrac Athletic Club, from the Westside Retail park runners are walked into the woods to the start 10 minutes away. The largely off road, undulating course is fully marshalled and consists of scenic trails through wooded areas with some tarmac and paths around the edge of the course. Yorkshire Runner in Otley once again sponsored the event but were notably missing at this years race. 2023 saw the 26th staging of the event. Chilly, overcast conditions made for perfect conditions for running this two lap course which was very technical at times run in and around Esholt Woods near Guiseley, runners encounter a good mix of tree roots, mud, cobbles, there’s also a few challenging hills thrown in including an extra tough one in the last mile which is thankfully only used once. Kicking off the Championship season in style and earning themselves valuable points on the table and a bottle of Pacesetter beer were: Stuart Wagstaff 62:13, Sarah Myers 72:19 and Julie Steele 66:38.
