THE VALE OF YORK 5 MILE & 10 MILE – SUNDAY 16TH APRIL 2023

Two Eccleshill Road Runners travelled to the ‘walled city’ of York for Race number 2 of the club’s Summer championship for the sell-out Vale of York races. Billed as a little brother to the Vale of York half marathon. Just like its big sibling, the 10 mile race takes off from a runway (a different one) to glide around some fast flat, traffic free closed roads, West of York, East of Leeds. New for 2023 the organisers have introduced the Vale of York 5 mile, at the same time on the same course (albeit half the distance!). So for those who feel 10 miles is too much, there was another option. Just as fast, just as flat, just as traffic-free and just as rural! Chip timed and run on closed roads and country lanes to and from Rufforth Airfield, East of York these popular races are billed as perfect for that elusive personal best time, today’s weather being on the warm side made for a little more of a challenge.
All finishers were awarded a medal and also had the option of  buying a t-shirt with their entry and could also opt in or out of the medal. Those who did opt out a £2 donation was made to a chosen charity. Finishing the 10 mile in 1:33:31 was Sarah Rawlings and the 5 mile in 48:38 was Stuart Wagstaff. Well done to both of you!
