PONTEFRACT 10K – SUNDAY 7TH MAY, 2023

posted in: Race Reports | 0

On a busy Bank Holiday weekend of racing three Eccleshill Road Runners chose to fly the blue and white at the Pontefract 10k. Described as a moderately hilly, circular route many are surprised to find that despite the location this race is in fact, not flat! The historic market town sporting a racecourse is host to this popular race which is billed as perfect for chasing that personal best. The Pontefract 10k is a fully measured course, licensed by Run Britain and run on closed roads. Starting and finishing at Pontefract Park it heads out to North Featherstone where it takes a right turn onto Willow Lane to begin an anticlockwise triangular loop which hairpins left just before the M62 motorway at Castleford Lane towards Ackton. Here runners take the final left turn taking them along Ackton Lane which becomes Park Lane as it heads to the finish line back at Pontefract Park. T-shirts and a medal were awarded to all finishers. Our team mates did the club proud and crossed the finish line as follows: Vicky Cousins 54:50, Gemma Illingworth 54:58 & Linda Bussey 62:58 Well done ladies!  Brilliant running!
