THE BLUEBELL TRAIL 10 MILE – SUNDAY 7TH MAY 2023

posted in: Race Reports | 0

Sheer determination and true grit were called for today in tackling this very popular but really tough event. Hosted by Stainland Lions, a well established running club with a charitable background. The Bluebell Trail is a notoriously challenging 10.3 mile multi terrain race through woodland, canal towpaths, trails and cobbled streets with the occasional hill here and there. This unique course incorporates some of the most scenic views within the heart of Yorkshire and even has a refreshing river crossing to finish! The gauntlet was thrown down many months ago by our former Eccleshill Road Runners member Mark Hayward to Garry Ellison who politely accepted the challenge. Training for this event started months ago but has suffered many setbacks. Mark Hayward challenged himself to complete this tough 10+ miler so how could Garry not agree to train to do it with him. Mark left running behind a number of years ago to increase his body size and weight in pursuit of some serious deadlifting, finally managing a deadlift of 230 kgs. Now this new challenge meant he had to not only lose a significant amount of body weight but literally start running anew! Proof today that if you strive for something and want it bad enough then you can achieve it. Well done guys!
