A rare Saturday race this weekend came in the form of the ever popular ‘Up The Odda”. Four Eccleshill Road Runners, Sarah Myers, Sarah Rawlings, Jackie Bywater and Daniel Jenkins stepped up to the plate clad in blue and white to take on this challenging but scenic race. Billed as a fantastic trail race around the woodland trails and the ‘Odda’, this popular event returned this year for it’s third edition. The races are around the trails and woods of Hawksworth and Menston. The 10k is a 2 lap race but with a 1 lap option for the ‘Nuffield Health Duo event’ which allows participants to run in pairs taking on one lap each. The event is held in association with Baildon Runners and is sponsored by Vertu Land Rover Guiseley. As usual all proceeds go to Hawksworth C of E Primary School. Also on the race menu were several options for the juniors. A 500 meter dash for 5 & 6 year olds, 1 mile for 7 & 8 year olds, 1 mile for 9-11 year olds plus newly added for 2023 the Hawksworth Dash for 12-15 year olds which is a 2.5 mile trail race taking in part of the main race including the Odda climb and a finish back at the school.
Our merry bunch of Oddas did us proud today in what, alongside the huge hill, were extremely challenging hot conditions with Dan returning from injury accompanying each of his team mates at one time or another to finish the race with Sarah Myers in 85:04 and 85:05 respectively. Jackie finished in 70:47 and Sarah Rawlings 74:15 and posting some really respectful times.
Great running and team work today, well done!
