FLAT CAPS 10K – SUNDAY 11TH JUNE, 2023

Hosted by Sowerby Bridge Snails, the Flat Caps 10k is a popular annual race around the picturesque Calderdale countryside. The race is now in it’s fifth year with 100% of profits going to the Christie NHS Foundation Trust in memory of a well respected member of their club. Over £9,000 has been raised so far from the event. It’s also race 7 in the club’s Summer championship. Vying for valuable points on the table were Sarah Myers and Julie Steele. The race started at 10:30am, with registration at Sowerby Bridge Cricket Club, Walton St, Sowerby Bridge. Billed as an undulating 10k Road Race, this was quite definitely an understatement with 3 miles of uphill in blazing heat from the start, in fact over 1000 feet of elevation! However, the downhills back to the finish at the cricket ground were more than welcome where bacon sandwiches, cakes and drinks were on offer. In all, a really well organised and chip timed, measured and fully marshalled event. Even if it was a tough course! All finishers received a bespoke medal. Julie finished in 67:16 (2nd FV60 earning a trophy), Sarah finished in 81:28, a big well done ladies and massive thanks to Gill and Martin for their support.
