THE DENHOLME DODDLE – SATURDAY 15TH JULY 2023

posted in: Race Reports | 0

The Denholme Doddle is a challenging walk and trail running event that revives the Harden Hard’un. It follows almost the same 27 mile route but starts and finishes in the village of Denholme, three miles from Harden and seven miles west of Bradford. Half of the route is on open moorland with outstanding views. It then passes Top Withins (Wuthering Heights) and other well known beauty spots in the Bronte Country. Both walkers and runners are welcome to take part. All proceeds from this event go directly to Mpika Village of Hope, a registered charity which cares for orphaned children in Zambia. This charity has very strong environmental and humanitarian ethics. The race offers three distances; 27, 21 or 17 miles. The time limit for all distances is 11.5 hours. There were six checkpoints for participants to make sure they were on track and also with good refreshments spaced throughout the route.

Two Eccleshill Road Runners chose the 17 mile option (that wasn’t 17 miles!). The weather wasn’t great, changeable to say the least but failed to dampen the spirits of our intrepid two, who had a blast and indeed had a fabulous day out in some of Yorkshire’s stunning scenery! Big congratulations for taking on this challenge and supporting each other round well within the time limit. Gemma finished in 4:04:53 (tbc) and Sarah 5:11:05 (TBC) Brilliant effort, Ladies well done!
