Four Eccleshill Road Runners took on this exciting event, a 13.1 mile road race through the beautiful countryside of Ilkley, West Yorkshire. The course takes runners through scenic views of the Yorkshire Dales, challenging hills and breathtaking valleys. The Ilkley Half Marathon is a perfect challenge for runners of all abilities, whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the sport. Participants can expect a clearly marked, well supported course with water stations and medical support throughout the race. With fun for all runners and spectators can enjoy the event village complete with amazing food, live music and family friendly entertainment in the form of a climbing wall, inflatable slides and so much more. Hosted by Ilkley Round Table, this half is a fast and flat road race taking place in this beautiful and scenic part of the Wharfedale Valley. The route is on closed tarmac roads and is mildly undulating for the most part except for a couple of short steep hills, one at about mile two and another around mile eleven. The event starts and finishes at West Holmes fields on Middleton avenue Ilkley, this is also where the event village can be found. With four water points along the route in an attempt at keeping the runners suitably refreshed, today though, the frequent heavy rain showers did a very good job of doing that. With a head wind for much of the race making for tough conditions for running today. Leading the blue and whites home was Claire Hern in 1:34:31 followed by Daniel Jenkins 1:38:01, Robert Sutton 2:01:57 and Tony Redmond. 2:06:51. Well done Team! Big thanks to our support crew cheering runners into the finish!
