THE G2E GLASGOW TO EDINBURGH ULTRA MARATHON – SATURDAY 7TH OCTOBER 2023

posted in: Race Reports | 0

Exciting times this weekend for Gillian Jago as she ramps up her Ultra marathon repute with the G2E Ultra in Scotland.  2023 saw the return of this brilliant Scottish race G2E Ultra starting in Glasgow from the ‘hyper modern’ Riverside Museum beside the Victorian Tall Ship Glenlee. Billed as a 50 miler it turns out the actual distance was nearer to 58 miles! No mean feat! However, an amber weather warning the day before can’t have done much to boost the confidence of any of the runners. Setting off in torrential rain, it continued throughout the race making for extremley challenging conditions. Gill reported that it was tough going mentally as well as phyisically, being soaked to the skin led to being so cold worries of hyperthermia set in. Thank fully, Gill and her ultra buddy along with a fabulous crew man made a team effort to get to the finish unscathed, no doubt extremely releived, thankful and every other emotion possible

G2E Ultra has live online GPS tracking from GB Race Tracker, a well marked route, great NEW venues & brilliant support at checkpoints along the journey, the G2E Ultra is a great, flat, fast-paced race, ideal for a personal best at the distance!
As expected the limited 500 places sold out in no time at all. This discipline is not for the faint hearted, participants are required to have run a minimum of a marathon distance before moving on to this level. The route is 56 to 58 miles long incorporating 231 metres of elevation. There is a cut off time of 15 hours.

The route also passes the Falkirk Wheel and the Antonine Wall, the Northernmost point of the Roman Empire (Vallum Antonini – dating back to AD 142).

The top 100 finishers earn a Gold G2E Ultra Medal, 101-200 finishers earn a Silver G2E Ultra Medal and 201+ finishers earn the Bronze G2E Ultra Medal. There are additional Bespoke GB Ultras Trophies awarded for the Top 3 Male and Top 3 Female finishers.

Gillian finished this colossal distance in 13:04:39. Fantastic effort Gillian, great running, well done!
