RACE 2 PECO XC – SUNDAY 3RD DECEMBER 2023

Hosted by STAC & Assisted by Kippax Harriers.
With winter’s grip truly in charge of the country, recent snow flurries and yesterday’s cancelled parkruns, you could be forgiven for thinking it would be touch and go whether the second race in the Peco XC series would go ahead, but with no measurement recorded on the Richter scale all was good for today’s outing! Just two ERR warriors braved the Baltic conditions to take part, Dan Jenkins and Robert Sutton. The course was frozen solid in some places with sloppy mud in others. All races today, the juniors and the senior Men’s and Women’s took part entirely in the grounds of the stunning Temple Newsam Estate. The distance for this year’s race has been reduced slightly but the elevation has been increased. As usual the start and finish were both located in the open area in front of the house. The Senior course included some short sections of hard gravel path, wooded sections and a couple of metres of tarmac. There was also a water splash / jump at the 2.7 mile mark, which Dan commented on as being particularly deep this year, quote (“ but don’t think we lost anyone in there though”) Bypass routes to the sides could be used if necessary through the reeds but where’s the fun in that? Dan finished in 33:21 and Rob in 51:29 Hat’s off to you both for braving it today, great running, well done!
