THE TEMPLE NEWSAM TEN MILE – SUNDAY 14TH JANUARY 2024

This popular, really well established event on the running calendar has grown in popularity and now showcases its 8th instalment, once again a sell out! Hosted by St Theresa’s Athletic Club, this fabulous race Offers trails, mud and memories galore, just over 10 miles of on and off road running in and around the magnificent Tudor-Jacobean estate of Temple Newsam in Leeds. Often billed as the perfect way for many to kick off their 2024 running campaign if they are quick enough to gain entry. It is billed as a race for runners put on by runners. Well organised with friendly marshals and glorious scenery to tempt you around the course. All finishers receive a long sleeved t-shirt and a finishers medal. The lack of rain in the past week gave some respite, the mud and puddles were not quite as deep as some years have seen. It was though, still very challenging underfoot with a fair distribution of patchy mud, puddles, tree roots and hills to negotiate. It was though, a beautiful, if a little cold, sunny morning which greeted the runners today making this a perfect setting for a January running event. Representing Eccleshill Road Runners today was Gemma Illingworth, supported by Sarah Myers who sadly had to pull out of the race due to injury! Gemma stormed home in a fabulous time of 1:38:25 despite being unwell herself recently. Hats off to both off you, well done Ladies!
