Two Eccleshill Road Runners travelled to this industrial town in North Lincolnshire, on what turned out to be one of the most beautiful days so far this year (translate to hot, hot, hot!). Hosted by ‘Big Green Events’ in partnership with Scunthorpe and District Running Club (amongst others), there’s a serious side to the organisation of these fantastic challenges, with a focus on reducing our environmental impact and getting people moving. Their motto: BE BETTER – NOT PERFECT, can be spotted all over the place. This represents their approach to their Big Green objectives. They’re delivering the ‘normal’ events you would expect… but trying with each element to do it a little bit better. Billed as being perfect for those chasing their personal best at this distance this year saw only the second edition of the race. Another quirk to the race was being able to run alonside or maybe beat “Fanny Annie’!! Vicky Cousins and Sarah Rawlings showed up mainly for the reward of a cookie and a mocktail at the finish (reports say they might have added vodka to their mocktails but we stress these are unconfirmed!!). In addition finishers also received a wooden medal and a packet of wildflower seeds to start their very own wildflower meadow! The ladies commented that the very hot conditions made for tough going and the finish couldn’t come quick enough. Despite that they both finished in fantastic times. Sarah in 58:03 and Vicky in 58:02. Fantastic running in tough conditions ladies, really well done!
