Six Eccleshill Road Runners were out in the blue and white tonight for this popular local race. Hosted by Pudsey & Bramley AC the Rush Around the Rhubarb is a 6k muti-terrain race on tracks and trails around the rhubarb fields in Pudsey. (Blink and you might miss the actual rhubarb though!!) The tough little race had a new start venue this year, moving from Priesthorpe School to the Pudsey Civic Hall. A short walk over the footbridge to cross Stanningley bypass and the runners arrived at the usual start – a little delay due to the junior races gave the rain a chance to move in just as the small field of runners began the quest to spot the rhubarb. Before winding their way up the track and emerging in Calverley for a left turn to begin a steep climb up Woodhall Road, thankfully not getting up as far as Woodhall Hills Golf Club before turning off to the left (for those lucky enough to spot it! Note to organisers – a marshal is needed here!) to level out and enjoy a bit of woodland scenery! A sharp right led up a challenging path eventually bringing them back to the start line to the finish! Rain and getting lost failed to dampen the spirits as Dan Jenkins romped home first for the team in 23:20, followed by Marc Steele 29:39, Martin Steele 34:00, Julie Steele 37:25, Sarah Rawlings 37:24 & Linda Bussey 38:06. Well done Team!
