A 5 mile run for Sue Ryder on the longest day in the loveliest of places! Hosted by Airedale Dodgers on behalf of Sue Ryder, the Solstice Saunter is a 5 mile fundraising event on the trails of the breathtaking Bolton Abbey Estate. Eccleshill had ? runners in the blue and white on the start line. The event is always timed for the evening of the Summer Solstice, this year falling on Thursday 20th June. This year saw the 10th Staging of this ever popular event; a circular 5 miles that starts from the Cavendish Pavilion car park and runs a clockwise loop up through the Strid Wood to Barden Bridge, then back along the road to the finish line where it started. The route goes along tarmac and gravel paths with a short section on grass, several hilly parts make for a real challenge and with an unexpected change to the recent weather making for a hot but really pleasantly sunny evening there also came an assortment of flies! Fortunately though, the route offers a large percentage of shade through the wooded areas of the Estate offering a little respite. Held at the event’s traditional home, the stunning Bolton Abbey Estate is a welcome site for over 900 runners and walkers, a record number for 2024! This truly is an event the organisers can be proud of!
All finishers received a fabulous bespoke Solstice Saunter medal, this year’s beautiful design depicting a heron and a Jammy Dodger or two!
