A group of Eccleshill Road Runners set out by train, car and automobile to the seaside resort of Blackpool on the Irish Sea coast, known for attractions such as the infamous Blackpool Pleasure Beach, an old-school amusement park with vintage wooden roller coasters and of course Blackpool Tower! Built in 1894, the landmark Tower houses a circus, a glass viewing platform and the Tower Ballroom, where dancers twirl to the music of a Wurlitzer organ. Another attraction is Blackpool Illuminations which is an annual light show along the Promenade. Blackpool Night Run is a 7.5km fun along Blackpool promenade on a traffic-free route, under the famous Blackpool Illuminations giving runners the opportunity to preview the lights two days before the official switch-on! Now in it’s fifth year, the route was completely traffic-free and fully marshalled for the duration of the event. Run in aid of Brian House Hospice, this year saw over 4,000 runners take part raising a phenomenal amount for the charity. A well organised, out and back route heads north towards the turnaround at Red Bank Road and returns to finish outside of Blackpool Tower. All finishers are rewarded with a fantastic medal and tee shirt. On the start line were Ann Buckley, Linda Bussey, Julie Steele, Tricia Grant, Alison Hartley, Vicky Cousins and Martin Steele and Sarah Rawlings.
