The Yorkshire Marathon Festival has always been a true ‘event for all’ with a choice of marathon, 10 Mile and relay events. Eccleshill had three runners out in the blue & white all tackling the 10 miler. The Yorkshire Marathon Festival is about ordinary people achieving extraordinary things through events that capture the Yorkshire Spirit, charitable causes and the support of thousands of cheering locals. Since 2013, the university has been hosting the start and finish points for the Run for All Yorkshire Marathon and Ten Mile Events at the heart of their campus in York. This year, over 10,000 people took part, from elite athletes to fun runners, and despite the inclement weather hundreds of supporters lined the streets to cheer them on. Hosted by Run for All, the Yorkshire Marathon gives athletes an opportunity to experience a flat and fast course which takes in the beautiful sights of York and the surrounding area. Not only do participants raise significant amounts for their chosen charities, but there’s a positive impact for local businesses too, particularly the hospitality sector. The Yorkshire Marathon truly is an event for public good, aligning perfectly to our Universities vision and values. Who are extremely proud to give the Marathon Festival a home. The historic route runs pastime of York’s most iconic buildings and streets, celebrating the rich history of the city. There’s a real PB potential this fast, flat course that heads into the stunning countryside outside York. The Yorkshire Marathon is renowned for its inclusive, supportive atmosphere, helping everyone to the finish line. All runners who complete the course receive an exclusive finishers medal to celebrate successful completion of this landmark event. Leading the team home today (and just 3 seconds shy of a personal best) was marc Steele in 1:13:08 followed by Vicky Cousins in a personal best time 1:23:41 and Julie Steele 1:36:49
