Two Eccleshill Road Runners turned out in the Blue & White this weekend joining the throng of 900 for this popular local race. The Keighley 10k & 5k on Mothers’ Day for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice are both challenging events at the start of the running season. This year’s event was kindly sponsored by Colin Appleyard, AWB Charlesworth Solicitors and the Modality partnership. Since the event started 18 years ago it has coined in more than £500,000 for the Sue Ryder charity! The official starter of this year’s race was the ‘panto pony’ aka Oakworth fell runners Jonathan Binney & Lee Bilbrough! After a route refresh for 2023 the 10k and 5k route now follow a circular route through the paths, parks and hidden gems of Keighley. The 5k now starts and finishes at Victoria Hall as does the 10k. Both routes take in a section of the Leeds Liverpool canal towpath and the stunning East Riddlesden Hall. The 10k route also takes in the stunning Keighley Golf Club. The weather, although chilly today and made a tad tough with windy conditions today. Relentless rain last year created muddy conditions and led to further tweaks being made this year making for a flatter, faster course. All finishers received a bespoke Keighley 10k or 5k T-shirt. As the event takes place on Mothers’ day many people run or walk with their mum, for their mum or in memory of their mum. Taking on the 2025 challenge were Trevor Rhodes 50:58 and Ann Buckley 1:31:26. Well done bth but especially Ann who battled to the finish despite sustaining injury during the race.
