Eccleshill Road Runners turned out in force once again for the ever-popular Apperley Bridge Canter, tackling the challenging multi-terrain course around Apperley Bridge, Rawdon, and the surrounding trails.
With a mix of canal towpaths, woodland sections, fields, and testing climbs, the race always provides a tough but enjoyable evening of racing, and with the added bonus of the heat – this year was particularly challenging!
Leading the Eccleshill contingent home was Marc Steele, who crossed the line in a strong 1:00:59, narrowly missing out on breaking the one-hour mark. Close behind was Tom Hornsby, continuing his impressive form with a finish time of 1:01:42.
Jackie Bywater put in another excellent performance to finish in 1:07:32, followed by Martin Steele in 1:10:36 after a strong run across the varied terrain.
Megan Weldon continued the blue vests’ strong showing with a determined effort of 1:14:06, while Sarah Rawlings and Vicky Cousins crossed the finish line together in 1:14:18, showing fantastic teamwork and club spirit.
Rounding off the Eccleshill results was Jim Funnell, who battled through the demanding course to finish in 1:15:43.
A brilliant turnout and another fantastic evening representing the club at one of the local racing calendar’s favourite events. Well done to everyone who took part and to all the supporters who came along to cheer the runners on!
