Two Eccleshill Road Runners the Goole Riverbank Challenge this weekend. Vicky Cousins and Sarah Rawlings travelled to the historic inland port town of Goole in the East Riding of Yorkshire, located about 50 miles from the North Sea. Hosted by Goole Viking Striders, this year the race was held to coincide with the Goole bicentennial celebrations. A modern twist on an age-old classic, the Riverbank Cahllenge is one of the regions most popular and well-established races, in 2022 it changed to a more accessible distance, previously being a quirky 8.73-mile distance. Even further back in its history, the race was a grueling 15 miles long. Each entrant had the option of a one off bicentennial technical T-shirt featuring the famous salt and pepper water tower landmarks to show off at the other events going on in the town later in the day! Billed as a predominantly flat, multi terrain course, starting on the riverbank of the Ouse, sweeping through the picturesque village of Hook, around the Riverside Gardens bandstand and back to the start/finish line along the riverbank. To also commemorate the bicentennial there was also a special prize for the 200th finisher! One of our ladies narrowly missed out as (he) finished in 60:37, Sarah finished in 59:36 (194th) and Vicky 57:43 (161st) Well done ladies!
