Hosted by Run For All, the Yorkshire Marathon Festival has always been a true ‘event for all’ with a choice of marathon, 10 Mile and relay events. Eccleshill had four runners out today tackling the 10 miler. The Yorkshire Marathon Festival is about ordinary people achieving extraordinary things through events that capture the Yorkshire Spirit, charitable causes and the support of thousands of cheering locals. Since 2013, the university has been hosting the start and finish points for the Run for All Yorkshire Marathon and Ten Mile Events at the heart of their campus in York. This year, over 10,000 people took part, from elite athletes to fun runners. Hundreds of supporters lined the streets to cheer runners on, provide music, water, sweets, oranges and more! The Yorkshire Marathon Festival gives athletes an opportunity to experience a flat and fast course which takes in the beautiful sights of York and the surrounding area. Not only do participants raise significant amounts for their chosen charities, but there’s a positive impact for local businesses too, particularly the hospitality sector. The Yorkshire Marathon Festival truly is an event for public good, aligning perfectly to the University’s vision and values. They are extremely proud to give the Marathon Festival a home. The historic route runs past some of York’s most iconic buildings and streets, celebrating the rich history of the city. Especially today, with perfect running conditions, there’s a real PB potential this fast, flat course that heads into the stunning countryside outside York. The Yorkshire Marathon Festival is renowned for its inclusive, supportive atmosphere, helping everyone to the finish line. All runners who complete the course receive an exclusive finishers medal to celebrate successful completion of this landmark event. Leading the team home today was John Turner in 1:31:18 followed by Marc Steele in 1:37:48, Julie Steele 1:45:29 and Barbara Stow in a personal best time 1:49:17. Well done everyone! & big thanks to our support and photography crew!
