ARMLEY PARKRUN – SATURDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2019

posted in: Race Reports | 0

The double whammy of Race one in the club’s Winter championship and parkrun tour came in the shape of Armley parkrun, held (funnily enough) in Armley Park, Stanningley Road. Just four Eccleshill Road Runners managed to get there following a night out celebrating fellow club member Garry’s 60th Birthday, including ‘the man himself!’ A fine morning for it, with perhaps more parkrunners than usual turning out on this the 15th Anniversary of the dawning of the phenomenon that is parkrun! So with valuable points at stake the timer was started, the three lap course left the tarmac for the PECO-esque soggy field, recent rain made for an increasing mud bath on each successive lap! The friendly, well organised event (as all parkruns are) offered rewards of Birthday sweets or cake at the finish! Earning himself a cool 15 points on the table Garry Ellison led the blue and whites home in just over 24 minutes (forgot his barcode but we’re sure it was nothing to do with the beer!), Gareth Harland (and Ellie-Mae) 36:17, Julie Steele 26:13 and Kathryn Lucas 36:01 (new PB!). Well done folks, next race in the Winter championship Yorkshire Marathon or 10 Mile 20th October.
