IT’S PARKY UP NORTH – SATURDAY 25TH JANUARY 2020

A “Grim up North” winter warmer as it’s billed. Three Eccleshill Road Runners competed at different distances in this race series. It’s Parky Up North, the “real” event: is one of two running events for Parkinson’s UK. Knowing how much runners love to run up and down the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. So IGUN brought this whole new race today starting at Kirkstall. As always you are guaranteed a nice flat route when you are out and backing on the canal towpath (apart from the locks of course!). Ian storey took this opportunity to clock up day 25 of his run every day January campaign completing a colossal 32 miler in 6:00:17(WOW!) what an achievement. Ian’s mission today wasn’t about getting a time, just getting around such a gruelling distance and raising money for two charities close to his heart. David Goodyear notched up yet another full marathon to add to his growing number whilst Vicky Omelianowicz completed the half marathon as a tribute to her Grandad. On what was a freezing cold damp breezy day they all managed to achieve their goals. Big respect to each and everyone of them and to Angela Storey and Annie Kisluk who volunteered and marshalled the race. All finishers received a bespoke medal and charity buff. Ian’s charities were MIND and Parkinson’s. David’s time for the full marathon, running for Parkinsons UK 5:23:12 and Vicky’s time for the half also running for Parkinsons UK 1:41:11 a brilliant effort by all, well done!
