KESWICK 15K TRAIL CHALLENGE -SATURDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER 2020

posted in: Race Reports | 0
Starting and finishing at Fitz Park, in Keswick, this series of races comprised 5K Derwentwater Sport Trail, 10K Derwentwater Trail Run, 15K Derwentwater Trail Race and 15K Derwentwater Trail. Eccleshill’s David Goodyear chose to take on the 15k Trail challenge. The routes are circuits along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways, taking in panoramic views of Derwentwater, the surrounding peaks of Skiddaw and Blencathra and the northern fells. Underfoot conditions today were a tad muddy to say the least, but given the recent torrential rain was no surprise! Organisers warned that the course had no stiles, so there was nothing but the hills and the infamous Bottomless Bogs of the Glenderaterra Valley to break up their rhythm.

A carnival atmosphere was guaranteed for both spectators and competitors, with live music, race commentary, food and drink all available at the start and finish. So, whether you’re new to trail running, an experienced athlete, or simply looking for an unforgettable day out in the Lake District, a family-friendly, festival atmosphere and some amazing trail running awaited runners and supporters alike! David finished the race in 2:01:18. Well done!
