ILKLEY HALF MARATHON – SUNDAY 11TH JULY 2021

posted in: Race Reports | 0

After the hugely successful inaugural event in 2019, the Ilkley Half Marathon is back.
Hat’s off to the organisers Ilkley and District Round Table (IRT), for putting on a fun challenging race over the last 10 years. With plenty of eager participants this year (most who’s entries were deferred from 2020,.they recognised that there were runners of all different experiences. With that in mind they used a great deal of thought and consideration to choose a route not just scenic but with a challenge and it’s all on closed roads! Not only is it chip timed but it follows a delightful route between picturesque Yorkshire Towns and Villages taking in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales countryside. So the clockwise route starts at East Holmes fields in Ilkley, runs out to Ben Ryhding before looping back and heading out towards Addingham along the Wharfedale Valley. From there a right turn takes runners to Crier Hill. After passing a water station at Beamsley and Nestfield the home straight beckons with the finish line back in the fields. Feedback from our team seemed to be positive with everybody enjoying the course but commenting on the undulating route with a cheeky hill thrown in around mile 11. Excellent running team, well done!
