THE CONISTON 15K TRAIL CHALLENGE – SATURDAY 2ND OCTOBER 2021

posted in: Race Reports | 0

Another busy weekend for David Goodyear with back to back Saturday and Sunday race bookings. Starting and finishing at Landing Point, Coniston Old Hall near Coniston village, the 15K Coniston Trail Challenge follows circuits along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways, taking in panoramic views of Lake Coniston and the surrounding peaks of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags. Underfoot conditions are generally good for those used to off road running, although there is one short section on the 15K routes which only agile mountain goats will be able to run! A carnival atmosphere was on the cards for both spectators and competitors, with live music, race commentary, food and drink all available at the start and finish. So, if you were new to trail running, an experienced athlete, or simply looking for an unforgettable day out in the Lake District, a family-friendly, festival atmosphere and some amazing trail running awaited you. It was organised by Lakeland Events. Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse and runners were faced with a deluge of rain meaning all participants finished absolutely saturated. This didn’t take the shine off things for David though who absolutely loved it! David completed this one in (01:57:36) Great running as always, good luck for Hopton 10k tomorrow. well done!
