A small but determined contingency of Eccleshill Road Runners embarked on what sadly is the last staging of the Rock ‘n Roll event series in Liverpool.

Held in Liverpool and its neighbouring borough Wirral since 2011, this event is the successor to the Mersey marathon which last took place in 1992. The inaugural event in 2011 was estimated to involve 12,000 participants. As always, there are courses of various distances being run, so there’s a race for everyone over the weekend.
Starting at the Royal Albert Dock, the course takes in the vibrant city centre, including some of the city’s most iconic buildings, music, sporting and cultural landmarks in an all-inclusive tour of the city. The course includes the famous Liver Building, Liverpool Town Hall, The Beatles Statue, The Cavern Club, Goodison Park Stadium – home to Everton Football Club, Anfield Stadium – home to Liverpool Football Club, Penny Lane, Stanley Park, Prince’s Park, Sefton Park, and the Chinese Arch before the home straight on the promenade alongside the River Mersey. In what turned out to be almost perfect weather conditions with a head on breeze at the start changing tack on the run along the seafront pushing runners on to the finish line back at the M & S Bank Arena to a roaring welcome from the throng of spectators.
Regardless of the distance, participants receive a unique medal.
In addition to this year’s finisher medals, runners who participate in both the Saturday 5K and one of the Sunday races will receive a third medal – the Remix Challenge Medal. Taking part in the marathon, his third in as many weeks was Marc Steele who romped home in 3:59:17 and Garry Ellison who showed true grit and determination after receiving a ‘surprise’ number through the post the previous week, leaving no room for marathon training and chose to document his 26.2 mile journey in photographs, stll finished with a smile on his face in a fabulous 4:54:07.

In the half marathon were Vicky Cousins who bagged herself a personal best time of 1:53:16 and Julie Steele 2:00:19. Vicky, Julie & Tricia Grant also completed the 1 mile race! Well done everyone!
