THE MONSAL TRAIL HALF MARATHON – SATURDAY 6TH NOVEMBER 2021.

Taking his hopefully now recovered legs and body for a spin was Dan Jenkins. Destination, Derbyshire, event, the Monsal Trail Half. The Monsal Trail Half Marathon takes in the stunning, traffic-free Monsal Trail one of the most iconic of Peak District trails with a flat-ish, good surface throughout. The Monsal Trail, is a former Midland railway line and the route takes runners through four railway tunnels plus across the spectacular Monsal Viaduct. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, this half marathon is ideal for Spring marathon training. It’s brought  by the same team that manages the Tissington Trail Half Marathon which regularly features in the Runner’s World top 10 UK trail races. This race is basically an out and back route from the former Bakewell Station. With a strict entry limit, it always sells out early. Whilst it is suitable for experienced runners it’s also seen as great introduction to the half marathon distance for runners of all abilities. Dan cannot praise this event enough. After smashing it and romping home in a time of 01:39:20. In his own words “The nicest half marathon bar none” The disused railway line is a real local asset and the event is organised and run by a really friendly bunch. So much so, Dan has already entered next years race. Brilliant running Dan, well done!
