HOOFSTONES FELL RACE – SATURDAY 21ST JANUARY 2022

posted in: Race Reports | 0

Hosted by Todmorden Harriers in conjunction with The Fell Runners Association. The course is an 8 mile lollipop route which only has a small amount of navigation, runners are though, urged not to enter unless they possess navigational skills, Eccleshill’s Dan Jenkins entered anyway!! Dan described the race as a brilliant race: “proper postcard scenery with all the snow on the tops” and a perfect warm up for the PECO cross country! Registration is at the Staff of Life pub, Burnley Rd, Todmorden. The race is a navigational challenge which takes runners to the highest point around Todmorden, Hoofstones Heights Trig Point – The Trig is situated on the East/West Watershed. There is route choice from checkpoint 1 – 4, as long as no fences or walls are climbed, runners must use the stiles where available. Although the weather was so much drier than of late as during the last week we were spared a break from the constant rain, some snow on the fells, a hard frost and Winter sun brought freezing fog making conditions even more challenging and runners had to battle the freezing cold as well as the rough terrain. Dan finished in a very respectable 1:22:53 (Strava, official time TBC)
